Great news for biodiversity lovers in Seville! The Seville Aquarium has recently opened a stunning new exhibit dedicated to the axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum), one of the most unique and critically endangered amphibians on the planet, popularly known as the “water monster” thanks to its incredible regeneration abilities and almost prehistoric appearance.This new area not only houses several axolotls in an environment recreating their natural habitat in Mexico’s Xochimilco canals, but also features other fascinating freshwater species, such as the mudskipper. The goal is twofold: to showcase the beauty of these creatures and to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect their habitats, as the axolotl is critically endangered due to environmental degradation.The opening perfectly aligns with World Water Day (around March 22), and the Aquarium has prepared a very special programme throughout the month:

- March 21 & 22: Special “Water and Biodiversity” activity with free talks and animal encounters.
- Workshops such as “Here We Save Turtles” (March 15) or “Reptilia” (March 28).
